Nuance to Open Office, Creating 40 Jobs in Dublin

After the hard-hitting 2008 recession, the federal government has been diligently working to strengthen the economy in hopes of creating more jobs across the nation. According to a press release, the Massachusetts-based voice technology company is opening its international headquarters in Dublin. Here, the company will recruit in sales, finance, management, and human resources.

Minister for jobs Richard Bruton explained that a major part of the government's plan for job growth is targeting sectors where Ireland has particular strengths, and then move forward in building clusters of companies in those designated areas.

 The company currently has offices in 35 countries, and Nuance has already employed 1,000 people in Europe.

''In recent years ICT has been a major success story, and the challenge now is to leverage the major international companies which have operations here to attract further investment,'' Bruton added.

IDA (News - Alert) Chief Executive Barry O'Leary also commented, stating, ''The decision by Nuance to locate its sales and financial shares services centre in Dublin is a clear endorsement of Ireland's strengths in the ICT area. Ireland continues to provide an attractive business environment to assist global businesses like Nuance grow a strong presence in Europe.”

The company also offers a range of communication products, including the ''Dragon'' range of voice recognition and dictation software, and the Swype (News - Alert) keyboard for mobile phones. The company sells its products to Audi, Barclays, BMW, BT, Deutsche Bank, the UK's NHS, the Revenue Commissioners, and Vodafone.

Additionally, it was reported just today that Nuance’s Swype has received a major update, the first ever since being acquired by the company. The update has come packed with tons of new features which Nuance previously stocked up in its Swype competitor FlexT9, including “next word prediction” as based on users’ input habits, handwriting recognition, and a voice-to-text (VTT) dictionary – if you don’t feel like texting, not you’ll have three ways to do so at your leisure.

Needless to say, this new update has been calling all Swype users to update from the current beta.
